Experience the henna magic
Some people have it all and I’ve seen it this weekend… part 1

I worked for this wedding this past weekend, It was quite a wedding I have to say…  Usually when work for a wedding, my part is usually just bridal mehndi on one evening and the mehndi party the next evening at the most( for a Indian wedding).  But Carrie and Ajay’s wedding was a lot more than that, they are a gorgeous looking couple with style for sure and quite successful!  they do have it all!  Carrie found me online in the beginning of the year to do henna for her wedding and she also expressed her immediate needs, help with her wedding invitation(which was mentioned in this blog in Jan).  So I was able to supply the henna design portion of the invitation and she loved it :) .

So, this past weekend was the wedding.  Friday morning they had a photo shoot in the photographer’s studio in both white gown(Oscar De La Renta) and Indian outfit(Choli and lengha).  I was there to apply Luxe Glow to go with her Indian outfit(aqua/silver) after she is done with the white gown shoot.  Then the plan was to go to her Luncheon and change the color to go with her maroon sari that she was wearing for the evening henna party. but, we were running so behind we they needed to go straight to the rehearsal after the shoot.

This is what she looked like for the shoot!! so gorgeous!!

her lengha was so amazing too, I loved it.  but It’s quite heavy, it felt like about 25lb.. I helped them pack and I lift this up :O

I applied Luxe Glow on both arms in silver with crystals and teal glitter gel.

She looked like she just walked out of a magazine!

since I didn’t have time to fix the color during lunch for the evening, I arrived early for the party and waited…  However, the UN convention traffic held up everyone and most people were late including the bride who was supposed to arrive early :( (  so it was a many waiting moments on Friday.  But the party was a lot of fun, many people were excited about Luxe Glow :) and really beautiful saris and dresses I saw there!

Had a couple drinks, after work and went home with a good buzz ;)

3 brides in one weekend!

Is it just me or I feel like there are more weddings in the first weekends and the last weekends of the month…  this past weekend I had 3 brides starting on Thursday night- Jessica’s henna party:

Jessica who wanted something rather simple on both hands and feet and she wanted her guests to have something as well.

thank you so much Jessica for sending me home in a car service!!  got home very quickly :) .

Friday morning at 8am (one of the rare occasion I needed to get up early..).  and maybe because of it, I was on the other side of town looking for her building, lol..  it was 355W 85th st,  NOT east side stupid! (me).

Nidhi was just hands and feet smaller bridal.

Rachel was simpler bridal.

My first Japanese Luxe Glow bridal!

It’s always a surprise when I get a Japanese client since I rarely advertise in Japanese community never mind someone who wants to get Luxe Glow for her wedding!  It was a great surprise for sure :) .   We met up to discuss designs 2 month ago and decided to get something starting from top of her shoulder going down towards the elbow and design stretching towards her collar bone.

here is the bride.

Many last minute gigs last week! :)

Lately, I have been getting many last min parties.  Last week I didn’t have much on Monday and by Tues day it already filled up the rest of the week :) thank god!  I always love to see the girls smiles and sparkle in their eyes when they see  Luxe Glow.

Thursday I had Susan’s mehndi party,  she was an American bride who is getting married to an Indian groom.  she had few of her family member and her groom side of the family at a hotel suite in downtown w/ a beautiful view of Hudson.   It was a very lovely event.

Friday was a sweet 16 for Makara,  she was having a sleep over party at her house w few of her friends and I was offering both Luxe Glow and henna.

Luxe Glow keeps evolving!! Tri color Luxe Glow!

Mahima saw Luxe Glow on my arm last summer when I was doing an event at a boat party.  She emailed me to set up an appointment to have it done for her cousin’s wedding to attend in India.   She wasn’t sure which colors to do so I said if you have a dark skin any cols would look great and she took as 3 colors combined.  After we agree on the price we made an appointment and I just went all out!  Copper and gold combo looked so fabulous so last layer of silver was just a touch.  We both had a great time and finished the night quite happily :)

My frist Luxe Glow bride in white gown

Well, I don’t have any photos yet to show you but, this is what I did for her.  Naomi is half Guyanese and always wanted to get henna for her wedding but she came across Luxe Glow and thought this was for her.  She had two gowns so we discussed the designs to accommodate both gowns.  I can’t wait to see the photos of her in dresses!  I’ll post them when i get them.

More planting seeds for spring to come

This last week has been a bit hectic, many meetings and the lat minute gigs which i was happy to take these..  but fortunately or unfortunately, some great opportunities come up  due to other henna artists car accident and the other was sick…( knock on wood I won’t be the next henna artist canceling gigs.)  One was the even I was able to sub for was a big event for event/ wedding planners!  So, I took this as another opportunity to promote Luxe Glow for Western brides in white gowns.  I started to do some sketches for this occasion, here are some:

As for the meetings, the bigges one i’m working on right now is the contract with 5 star Hotel opening in SOHO soon!  I was contacted by a spa director there and we are having meetings to work out the details how to work together.  I’m sure i can update as they make official announcements but for now it’s in process and keeping my fingers crossed.  I can see Luxe Glow taking off this summer for sure!

My first henna wedding invitation design!

Well, sort of.. my part was to design the henna motif part. Since I’ve worked in the textile print field, I understand very well that people describe prints in very personal ways. Also if you are looking for a true henna designs not too many graphic designer ( not even a textile/print designer )can really create that design flows nicely. So I get a phone call from a bride with henna inquiry and at the end a request to help with her invitation! I believe she found a right person for this!! so said no problem, she sent me a link to what she liked from my site then based on the that I sent her the design and she LOVE it! Said it was exactly what she was looking for.
Ola at:http://ijorere.com/ is the one who is working on this invitation, so everything else but henna motif is what she worked on.

Testimonial – Note

For personal reasons I was not able to have henna done on my wedding.
After a long, exhausting search on henna alternatives, I found online
Akiyo’s photos of her silver and white henna designs. The pictures
were beautiful… but they did no justice to how gorgeous her work
looked in person. I went with gold henna designs to match my outfit
and it really completed my look. I received so many compliments from
people expressing how much they loved the gold design over traditional
henna. Akiyo’s work made me feel special and I couldn’t have been more
thrilled

– THANK YOU!
